Adrienne Janic - Salon City - August 2006BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Adrienne Janic works on cars for a living as the host of the poplular show, Overhaulin'. Before she joined the show, she wasn't a car buff, she says, but now knows how to weld, use a grinder – everything a gal needs to be able to do to keep up with the boys. WE asked Adrienne to tell us about her non-mechanical love – her dog, Rolex. Rolex is my son – my hairy son ! I know it sounds crazy, but I think of him as my child. Rolex has an amazing personality. I would describe him as cool and laid back. Right now he's in what I call the “teenage stage”. He;s eight, but sometimes I feel like I'm dealing with a teenager. At least once a day he has a burst of energy where he goes to his basket, which is filled with toys, picks out a toy and just goes crazy with it. He will run all around the house until he wears himself out. Rolex is definitely a great name. Other than him being a “watch dog”, I've always liked Rolex watches. I told myself that one day I would get myself a Rolex watch. When I adopted Rolex, he was my first Rolex, and he is priceless. Rolex loves the camera. I think it's safe to say that he gets that from me. One time for Halloween, I dressed him up in a couple of costumes and took pictures of him. He was a devil in one set , and my favorite, an Ewok. I would place him where he needed to be and he would hold that pose. He is definitely a great model ! Sometimes he comes to set with me. He is very good. But he actually prefers hanging out in the trailer. Everyone loves him there. And of course, he loves all the attention he gets ! An Overhaulin' for Rolex would be a trip to the groomers. He gets a nice shampoo, his hair cut, nails clipped, and the hair on his ears blown out straight, and the final touch…doggie cologne. But NO bow in his hair ! He HATES those ! Rolex has his own ride. It's actually my dad's car, but we call it Rolex's limo. He has his own blanket in the backseat that he loves to sit on while he is being “chauffeured” around town. Rolex means everything to me. If I'm having a bad day, or had a long day, he knows. He will want to just sit on my lap as if he is saying, “ it will be O.K.” The best part is when I pick him up from my dad's or come home, the excitement and happiness he expresses makes whatever kind of day I was having a whole lot better. Rolex has taught me that the simple things in life are sometimes the best. Going for a walk, hanging out on the deck, going to the park for an afternoon, and visiting friends… basically, learning to slow down from my hectic schedule, and just enjoy my surroundings. I support all animal groups and charities that help animals, from rescuing dogs and cats to helping save animals on the endangered species list. I have gone up to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab , Utah and donated my time for a weekend caring for the animals. It was probably one of the best, most rewarding weekends I've ever had. The animals were amazing. They were so unconditional, and the only thing they wanted in return was attention and someone to love them back. A perfect world for animals would be a place where humans have respect for animals. People underestimate the intelligence and the extra senses that animals have. We can definitely learn a lot from them.
