C8: So what's it like working in the "Reality" TV biz?
AJ: I don't know if I would classify myself as working in reality TV. To me, reality TV is all about competitions and the last man/woman standing. I'd like to say that I host TV based on reality. I think that's a lot more fun than acting like an idiot to win a prize!
C8: What do you like the least about the biz?
AJ: Overall, I love my job and what I do. But I would have to say that I HATE the early call times and getting up early. I'm a night owl! I also hate being away from family and friends for long periods at a time when I have to shoot out of town.
C8: How did you end up doing so many car related shows?
AJ: When I first started on Overhaulin, I knew NOTHING about cars! But, I rolled up my sleeves and learned a lot on that show. I had the best teachers in the world there! Once Overhaulin got cancelled, I did a couple of racing specials on CBS Sports. From there, I moved over to the SPEED Channel and built and designed my own muscle car (a 1968 Firebird) on a show called Hot Rod TV. At the time, the SPEED channel had a new show in development (HIN) and offered me the job as host. I said YES!!! I guess I got lucky being on the hit show Overhaulin. That show definitely opened up a lot of doors for me in the automotive world! Now I'm hooked and obsessed with cars!
C8: What did you like the best about doing the HIN TV series?
AJ: Hands down, the people! From the people who put on the HIN events, to the people who attend the HIN shows. I've also had the opportunity to visit and see cities in the U.S that I have never seen before. Great people and traveling to fun cities, I think I have a pretty cool job!
C8: Were you ever mistaken for one of the Go-Go Girls and asked to get on stage and perform?
AJ: Maybe if I was wearing the furry boots!! Honestly, no. The Go-Go girls have a fun, sexy vibe. They wear hot outfits, furry boots, and have some sexy moves. I don't know if I would be able to keep up with them! The Go-Go girls are a big part of the HIN show and a lot of people come to see them! I'm still waiting for that compliment!
C8: Are you a Honda or a Hemi girl or does size even matter?
AJ: That's kind of a tough question! One of my favorite cars that I ever owned was a 2001 Honda Prelude. I LOVED that car! It never gave me any problems and I put over 100,000 miles on it! On the other end of the spectrum, I love American muscle cars-like my 68 Firebird! She (yes, it's a she!) has the new LS3 engine which puts out 430 horse power. I guess you can say I swing both ways!
